The end of sales-as-admin
Your sales rep was hired to sell. This week they spent 30% of their time doing it. This is the manifesto for why that is changing — and what it is changing into.
Prologue
This is not a sales pitch. It is a declaration of faith.
The belief that B2B sales has been done wrong for fifty years. Not on purpose. Not from laziness. Because a better way simply did not exist. Every era tried to fix the problem and failed — because the work itself required a human.
The belief that in 2026 the constraint broke. AI does not replace the seller. AI frees the seller from the work that was never theirs to begin with.
The belief that sellers were not hired to be part-time data clerks. They were hired to be full-time sellers.
This is the manifesto for Unbound Selling.
"It is kind of fun to do the impossible." — Walt Disney
I. The admin trap
Salesforce measured it in 2025. The average B2B sales rep spends 30% of their week selling. The other 70% goes somewhere else. Research. List-building. CRM updates. Status reports. Note-taking. Internal meetings. Follow-up coordination. Chasing approvals. Formatting proposals. Jumping between 8 different tools.
43% of reps report 10–20 hours of admin work per week. That is half of a full-time job — on top of the job you are paying them to do. 68% name note-taking and data entry as the most time-consuming tasks. Year after year, this is true. Year after year, platforms add fields, not remove work.
You pay for a seller who could call, listen, build trust, close. You get a 30%-time closer. This is not the rep's fault. It is the system's fault.
This is the admin trap — and every B2B sales rep is in it.
II. Fifty years without a fix
This trap is not new. It has been built decade after decade. Every era promised to fix it. Every era failed, because the technology was not enough.
1970s — Rolodex. Business cards in a wheel. The rep maintained it themselves. Scaled one rep deep.
1990s — CRMs. Salesforce, Siebel. Promised to centralise the information. Made it data-entry work that nobody did. Data went stale immediately.
2000s — Data providers. Dun & Bradstreet, ZoomInfo. Told you what companies exist. Did not tell you who decides. The rep still called the switchboard.
2010s — LinkedIn and intent data. Decision-makers named themselves. But mass export was blocked. MIT tested intent segments in 2023: they performed no better than random prospecting.
Every era tried to reduce the admin. Every era failed, because the work itself required a human. Someone still had to research, write, update, report. The tool just made the work easier — not the work go away.
III. What changed in 2026
In 2024, generative AI came to email. Apollo, Lavender, Regie and dozens of others shipped AI drafting tools. Buyers learned to spot AI copy within weeks. Reply rates collapsed. The first attempt failed.
In 2025, the next promise emerged: autonomous AI SDRs. Artisan, 11x, and dozens of others raised hundreds of millions on "fire your SDRs". By 2026, the result was clear: 50–70% of deployments churned within 12 months. Only 2% survived past year one. Artisan and 11x repositioned as "hybrid copilots". Pure autonomy was the wrong shape.
In 2026, the market found the right shape. Hybrid pods — AI handling the backstage, humans running conversations — produced $278K/seat/month versus $187K for human-only and $94K for AI-only. Cost per qualified opportunity fell from $487 to $224. Hybrid won, because it honours both what AI does well (scale, continuity, data operations) and what humans still do better (trust, judgment, closing).
This is the moment the admin trap breaks. For the first time, all the research, list-building, email drafting, CRM updates, follow-up scheduling, signal monitoring, and note-taking can be delegated to the AI layer — and the human is left with what they were always hired to do.
IV. The new category: Unbound Selling
This new way has a name.
Unbound Selling is the category of B2B sales where sellers are unbound from the admin work that polluted their job for 50 years. AI handles the backstage. Humans handle the frontstage. Every rep is finally the full-time seller they were hired to be.
The old way — call it Bound Selling — forces every rep to do everything. Research, lists, emails, CRM updates, reports, AND the actual customer conversations. The result: 30% selling time and a burnt-out team.
Unbound Selling inverts this. The human's day starts where the Bound Selling day ends — with a conversation, not research.
V. What Unbound Selling looks like
The day does not start with opening the CRM. The day does not start with Google or LinkedIn. The day starts with a queue the AI built overnight — verified, pre-researched, every account with a draft.
- The backbone. Every company, every decision-maker, every direct number — from authority registers and LinkedIn, verified today. Not a sample. Not last quarter. The full market, fresh.
- AI in the backstage. Account research, prioritisation, drafting, CRM updates, follow-up scheduling, signal monitoring — all continuous. In your voice. Ready when the human walks in.
- Human on the frontstage. The rep approves, edits, sends — and then does the only thing AI still cannot fake: has a conversation with another human.
- 90-day cycle. Cover the entire defined market every quarter. Your competitor does this every five years. You do it every quarter. They never catch up.
VI. Three truths about your market
1. Everyone competes for the 3%. 3% buying now. 67% buying, but not today. 30% never. Today's B2B sales targets the 3%. Every competitor does the same. The 67% goes untouched.
2. The 67% is where growth lives. Marketing has known for decades that memory builds through repetition. With the audience known and AI handling the continuity of contact, the whole 67% can be nurtured across channels — until they are ready. Without a human doing a single admin task.
3. The window is open. But it closes. If your competitor moves to Unbound Selling now, they grow 5× faster than you — same team, same budget. This is the moment.
VII. Companies that unbound their reps
Fondion Oy — +600 % sales growth Q1/2025 vs Q1/2024. 15 reps, construction-industry ERP. CRM was empty and outdated. The entire relevant market was built into HubSpot in a month. On Monday morning, reps had a queue — right people, right numbers, count of how much market remained.
Villi — 3× annual growth. 16,000 e-commerce companies. Too loose. The right profile was built from the data: 1,200 companies. One SDR instead of three. The market was swept 10× faster than before.
HeiaHeia — +40 % annual growth. Grew to nearly €1M on inbound. When the flow slowed, outbound was built from the audience. The same model was then taken to Denmark.
Right People Group Espanja — 30 % reply rate on decision-maker calls. The Spain office had tried ten different data providers. Direct numbers for Spanish C-level decision-makers were always missing. Clevenio found them.
VIII. Commandments — what we believe
I — Do the impossible
Unbound Selling was built to do something considered impossible: combine data, AI and humans so the seller is actually freed. Doing the impossible does not mean cutting corners. It means that when every pressure says "ship it good enough", we pick careful.
II — Pride and a spine
Clevenio is the only data company in Finland that offers a data-quality guarantee. If you are not satisfied, you get your money back. Others sell the data and move on. To us, every row is a reputation.
III — AI in the backstage, human on the frontstage
AI is done well when it makes the human better — not when it tries to replace them. Every automation in our system is built to give the seller their time back, not to send spam emails on their behalf.
IV — Do your work so well you will be missed
When a customer leaves — and sometimes they do — their sellers should say: "Before Clevenio I filled lists by hand. I don't want to go back." Then you know the work was done as well as it could be done.
What we are not
- We are not an AI SDR — the human does not disappear from the queue, they are freed from the admin.
- We are not a data pipe — our job is to change how you work, not just deliver rows.
- We are not a booking agency — we help you build the capability, not outsource it.
- We do not promise what we cannot deliver — a hard truth beats a comfortable lie.
Epilogue — The call
If you have read this to the end, you know more about how B2B sales is changing than most people in the industry. Now there are two options.
First: keep this as information.
Second: unbind your sales team. Not as a forced evangelist — as a person who has seen where B2B sales is going. Every meeting is a chance to teach. Every customer we help is a step closer to the world where sellers finally do the job they were hired to do.
